News

This is a somewhat abbreviated newsletter, since I have spent most of the last few months attempting to stop the expansion of a strip mining operation in our local mountains. You can find out more about this at Save Our Canyon.

The godandscience.org website was attacked again and the hacker put up a phishing page, which caused our host to shut down the server. After convincing them that our goal wasn't to steal people's identities, we were allowed back online.

My wife Carole has just finished her fourth round of chemotherapy for a brain tumor that had begun to grow again. A recent MRI showed that the tumor has stopped growing. Praise God! Thank you for your prayers.

Evolution of God

The Evolution of GodI received a request from the publisher to review Robert Wright's new book, The Evolution of God, which purports to show that the concept of God has evolved along with mankind. I am not sure what the publisher was thinking sending me a copy of Wright's anti-theistic diatribe, but I agreed to review the book. Wright believes that the concept of God will continue to evolve until He becomes a complete patsy and all humankind will live together in harmony. Yes, it is the classic "religion is bad" and "atheism will save humanity" story. Expecting something more scholarly, I was sorely disappointed in the author's use of logical fallacies, quoting out-of-context, etc. It was really, really bad! More...

The Lost & Found Family

Lost & Found FamilyGuest author Dana Chaffin was impressed with the movie, The Lost & Found Family, which comes out on DVD on September 15, 2009. The movie is a tender tale of life in a foster home. Five cautious kids find that they are beautiful, valuable, and even one a hero. A stranger discovers that God can bring her from tragedy to triumph. The touching story and the remarkable story behind the movie make this a must see. More...

Answers for Atheists

Parallel gospel

A common assertion by atheists is that the Bible's gospel accounts are contradictory and do not tell a consistent story of the ministry of Jesus Christ. However, Christian author, David A. Reed, has edited a comprehensive gospel account using all verses from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and made it available as a public domain document. More...

Mercy of God

Richard Dawkins, in The God Delusion, says the God of the Old Testament is "unjust, unforgiving, and bloodthirsty," among other things. Atheists believe (wrongly) that God acted without mercy or justice on His foes. However, a careful study of the texts reveal that God first warned people of the impending judgment, then judged only the guilty, but never the innocent. The knowledge of God's mercy was such that Jonah, the reluctant prophet, initially refused to warn Nineveh of its imminent judgment, because he wanted God to kill them all, rather than have them repent and be spared. After Nineveh repented, Jonah sulked until God gave him a lesson in mercy. More...

2012 prophecies

The crazies have arrived and a lot of people are getting caught up in the 2012 hysteria. In case you haven't heard, the ancient Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012 and supposedly predicts the end of the world (as we know it). I don't usually write satire, but it seemed appropriate in this case. Enjoy!

Webmaster

WYSIWYG HTML editor

Commercial HTML editors tend to cost $200 or more. On occasion, volunteers for the ministry need to edit pages, but I can't buy each of them a commercial product. In searching for the best free HTML editor, I reviewed 8 of the most popular programs. Six of the 8 programs were completely unacceptable, either because they did not work with Windows Vista or because they did bad things to your HTML (or PHP) code. Amaya had the most features, but has an annoying display, which renders text in a blurry PDF-style mode. I found PageBreeze to be best overall, with numerous features and acceptable output. More...

"Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?" (Jonah 4:11)
