Thank you for your prayers for Carole, my wife, and her brain tumor. The area that showed disturbing changes three months ago has returned to "normal" and she is doing fine.
I am still working against the evil strip mining company that insists on tearing down a mountain less than a mile from schools and homes. They spent over $100,000 in mailers to try to stop our petition drive for a referendum, but failed since we got over 2,500 signatures with only 1,650 required. Afterwards, political pressure was put on the host of our fundraising event, causing them to pull out at the last minute, canceling our fundraiser. In his new book, The Grand Design, Stephen Hawking claims that the reason the universe needs no creator is due to a "new theory" called M-theory (where "M" stands for "membrane," or just "m," or "murky" or "missing"1 depending upon one's particular version of the theory). Originally promoted as "superstring" theory 20 years ago, it has evolved from "strings" to "membranes," although all forms of the theory propose extra dimensions (11, in fact). However, M-theory is no single theory, but, rather, a number of theories through which one may obtain just about anything one wants. Legalize marijuana?
California's Proposition 19, the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act 2010 (RCTCA) to be voted on this fall by the citizens of California, will decide whether marijuana will become legalized for cultivation, transportation and personal use by adults 21 years of age and older. If passed, this will be the first legalization of marijuana use for non-medical reasons in the United States. Marry a non-Christian?
I have received a few emails from Christians (and even one from a non-Christian) asking if it is okay for a Christian to date or marry an unbeliever. Usually, by the time the question is asked, the relationship has gone far enough that a negative answer is going to be difficult to accept, even if it is the right answer. The short answer is "no." In 1650, James Ussher, the archbishop of Ireland, came up with a detailed timeline for all of the events in the Bible, going all the way back to the creation of man and the universe. According to Ussher’s chronology, Adam and Eve were created in the year 4004 BC. In order to date backwards from Abraham to Adam and Eve, Ussher made use of the genealogies given in Genesis 5 and 11.
