News

I have been very busy dealing with a local strip mining issue for the last four months, so this newsletter is somewhat abbreviated. Vulcan Materials, an aggregate mining company, wants to strip mine a mountain only a few thousand feet from homes and an elementary school. They have falsified some of the critical data in the environmental impact report (EIR) and the "independent" consultant Lilburn Corporation, hired by the city, has also falsified data in the EIR. Originally believing that I was the only evangelical Christian opposed to the mining plan, I have discovered that most of the opponents are Christians. We had a great prayer time in front of City Hall before the first City Council meeting. A decision by the City Council should be made within the next month.

Saving Melanie

Saving Melanie DVDSaving Melanie, a Christian drama, is now available on DVD. The message of this film is forgiveness, trust, and testing. Most Christian films end with someone being saved, but this one takes the story from the salvation. It shows that just because you are saved that everything does not magically become perfect. The story of this movie is touching, but the story behind the scenes is inspirational. More...

Lord Save Us

Lord Save Us From Your FollowersLord Save Us From Your Followers was released on DVD on April 20, 2010. This is a humorous and insightful documentary about how America views Christians. It answers the question, “Why is the gospel of love dividing America?” The film does not add to the fight between “Us” vs. “Them”, but has a conversation with those who believe and oppose the Christian faith. It is very entertaining and is meant to wake the Church up to see how others view our tactics. More...

Atheists Myths #2

Atheists Myths 2I taught another Paradoxes Sunday School class at my church, this time on the subject of the deity of Jesus Christ. Atheists claim that Jesus was just a man and that stories about him evolved over time, resulting in the God-man Jesus we know today. Is this a fair assessment of what happened or is there evidence that Jesus was worshipped as God from the beginning of the Church? The presentation is available as a Flash or PowerPoint format. The audio recording is also available as an MP3 file that can be played as you watch the slides. More...

Atheists Myths #3

Atheists Myths 2I taught a third class on the subject of atheists myths at Paradoxes Sunday School class on April 25. This time the myth is that the apostle Paul invented Christianity and Christian doctrines. In addition to the short teaching on this topic, two recent scientific studies were examined - one on the "Evolution" of Fairness and Punishment and a second on the paper, "Universal Plausibility Metric and Universal Plausibility Principle". The first study shows that Christianity has more influence on people's fairness than market integration (trading for food). The second study examines the question of whether extremely small probabilities (as would apply to the design of the universe or the original of life) should be considered scientifically plausible. The author calculates the most extreme probability that could be considered scientifically plausible based upon the age, size, mass and maximum quantum events of the universe and concludes that anything with a probability of less than 1 in 10140 must be rejected as scientifically plausible. The presentation is available as a Flash or PowerPoint format. The audio recording is also available as an MP3 file that can be played as you watch the slides. More...

General

Free Internet Filtering

Being a Christian, I have always been concerned about the Internet in our home. We have three sons who are involved in Internet searches for their school projects and enjoy Internet games in their spare time. So, since they first began to use the computer, we have used content filtering software to block inappropriate content from entering our home. Some of these programs were free, but these are now unavailable. So for the last three years I have been using Net Nanny. However, if you are on a budget and can't afford $40/year, there is a free way to filter your Internet content, if your Internet connection goes through a router. We are going to use the free DNS management services provided by OpenDNS to setup your free filtering. More...
