The Ipod Tutor: The Argument Against Richard Dawkins' The God DelusionThis month we have an assortment of articles from religion and politics (everything you aren't supposed to talk about in civil company). Included in the list is a discussion of what's wrong with the American Dream, why Christians should vote for California's Proposition 8, and a review of Hugh Ross' excellent new book, Why the Universe Is the Way It Is.

Recently, a secular group decided to produce a resource on logical fallacies. Guess what book they chose to use as their example to critique? Richard Dawkins's book, The God Delusion! The MP3 study is called The Ipod Tutor: The Argument Against Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion. Too funny!

Why the Universe is the Way it is

Why the Universe Is the Way It IsIn a slight departure from their usual books on a testable creation model, Hugh Ross (Reasons To Believe) takes on the big "why" questions about the universe and why God created in the way He did. This book represents a continuation of Creation As Science with more emphasis on how biblical theology fits with what we know about the characteristics of the universe and life on earth. Why the Universe Is the Way It Is is an excellent integration of biblical theology with the latest scientific evidence that supports the Christian worldview and the Bible as God's revelation to humanity. It also provides answers to common skeptical questions and complaints. The book is not overly technical, so it is highly recommended for all those interested in science and the Christian faith. Answers for Atheists

Eye for an eye?

I received an email from an atheist who claimed that the messages of the Old and New Testaments were vastly different. The atheist asserted that the Old Testament taught "eye for an eye" and the New Testament taught "love thy neighbor." Although this is a common assumption among atheists who have probably never read the Bible themselves, the perception is wrong. The Old Testament first commanded the Hebrews to love their neighbors, including even the aliens who were in their land. The Old Testament also forbade the taking of personal vengeance, requiring that the Hebrews to take all disputes before the judges. The "eye for an eye" punishment was prescribed by judges for serious crimes, such as assault and murder, and was not to be executed by the individual. Although the New Testament is often characterized as teaching about the love of God, there are actually many more verses that declare God's love in the Old Testament. Therefore, the messages of the two testaments and not conflicting, but in harmony with each other. More...

Christian Life Issues

Democrats & Republicans

With the upcoming U.S. presidential elections a short time away, I figured now was a good time to write an article to stir the pot. I am sure I will get lots of email about this page, since neither Democrats nor Republicans are going to like it very much. Even so, this page examines the moral principles that are violated by Democratic and Republican platforms and what Jesus Had to say about that cherished concept of "The American Dream." No, I won't be running this election, so you won't be able to vote for me (not that you would probably want to, anyway!). More...

Yes on Prop. 8

On November 4, 2008, Californians will vote on Proposition 8, the Protect Marriage Constitutional Amendment. In March, 2000, California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 22, which stated, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." However, the California State Supreme Court declared Proposition 22 unconstitutional by a 4-3 vote and judicially legislated gay marriage for all Californians. Contrary to the claims of proposition 8 opponents, marriage is not a right, but is a legal contract between a man and a woman intended to stabilize families to raise children. Marriage has always been restricted to be allowed only between two unrelated adults. If the California Supreme Court ruling is allowed to stand and marriage is declared a fundamental right of all individuals, then any restrictions that limit the right of certain individuals to marry will be nullified, allowing for incestuous, multiple partner, and potentially child marriages More...

"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.' But I say to you, do not resist an evil person... You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." (Matthew 5:38-39, 43-44)
