Evidence for God from Science Newsletter January, 2000

Greetings in the name of the Lord! This is the latest edition of the update for the Evidence for God from Science website. Many exciting discoveries have occurred over the last two months along with some serious concerns for the Christian community.

Important News

"Stem cell" Research
The National Institutes of Health has posted guidelines for stem cell research that includes destroying human embryos or even creating human embryos for the purpose of using their cells (which kills the embryo) for research. If you think life begins at conception, please send comments (e-mail, FAX, or letter) to NIH BEFORE February 14, 2000 (the deadline for submitting comments). For more information and sample letter:

Thanks to those who visited the site and contacted the Federal Communications Commission about their recent ruling. On December 29, the FCC filed a ruling that significantly infringed on the rights of religious non-commercial television programming. Due to massive Christian response, they reversed their ruling on January 28. Although Chairman Kennard cited "lack of clarity" for the reason for reversing their decision, Commissioner Roth stated, "It was not for lack of clarity that these parties [Christians primarily] objected to the decision but for infringement of freedom of speech and freedom of religion – and rightly so."

I encourage all of you to keep up with current issues relevant to Christians. I recommend subscribing to Focus on the Family's Citizen Link (http://www.citizenlink.org).

Congratulations to Joe, who submitted an essay about what God has done for him and why he is grateful. In appreciation of his essay, Joe received a free Evidence for God from Science CD-ROM (see below) along with Ages Software Master Christian Library version 6, which contains hundreds of classical Christian works.

Apologetics

The charge is often made that Christianity is only for people who are stupid or uneducated. The truth is that many scientists of the past and present believe in a Creator God. Read about these scientists and what they had to say about God:

People of Faith - Famous Scientists

"The most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion on an intelligent and powerful Being." Isaac Newton (from Principia)

In a recent discussion with my orthodox Jewish boss about what Christians believe about salvation by grace through faith, I realized how poorly I was prepared to present an Old Testament defense of the Christian doctrine of salvation by faith. As a result, I did some research and prepared a compelling argument for salvation by faith from Old Testament verses. Be prepared to present the doctrine of salvation by faith to your Jewish friends:

Evolution

One new page has been added, in addition to updates to virtually every other page in the evolution department.

An article appeared in the August 23 edition of Time magazine that presented the case for evolutionary descent of humans as an open and shut case for naturalistic evolution. As a result of the article, Dr. Fuz Rana, myself and Dr. Hugh Ross produced a rebuttal to their article, which can be found on this site, as well as Reasons To Believe's site (http://www.reasons.org):

The Myth of Junk DNAA remarkable new study shows that DNA that does not carry the information necessary to make a protein.non-coding ("junk") Deoxyribonucleic acid: the chemical inside the nucleus of a cell that carries the genetic instructions for making living organisms.DNA is functional! The study shows that DNA that does not carry the information necessary to make a protein.non-coding Deoxyribonucleic acid: the chemical inside the nucleus of a cell that carries the genetic instructions for making living organisms.DNA is required as a structural component of eukaryotic cells (cells that have a nucleus). It also refutes the evolutionary concepts of "junk" or "selfish" Deoxyribonucleic acid: the chemical inside the nucleus of a cell that carries the genetic instructions for making living organisms.DNA. Get the whole story in "Designing Times":

More information on the functions of DNA that does not carry the information necessary to make a protein.non-coding Deoxyribonucleic acid: the chemical inside the nucleus of a cell that carries the genetic instructions for making living organisms.DNA can be found on another page:

Young Earth Creationism

Many young-earth creationists say that the day-age interpretation model of Genesis is based more upon scientific evidence than biblical interpretation. However, every concept promoted by the day-age interpretation is based upon the Bible. For example, the Bible states that the covenant and laws of God have been proclaimed to a "thousand generations" (Deuteronomy 7:9, 1 Chronicles 16:15, Psalms 105:8). If we consider a biblical generation to be 40 years, this would represent at least 40,000 years. Considering that the first dozen or more recorded generations were nearly 1,000 years, this would make humans ~50,000 years old, which agrees very well with dates from paleontology and molecular biology. This new page examines some of the challenges to the day-age interpretation from a biblical perspective.

I often receive e-mails from people asking about the validity of young-earth claims of proof for a young earth. Rather than answering the same questions over and over again, I am going to post answers and links under a new subsection. For the most part, others have already produced the answers to these "proofs," so these pages will be brief, with links to more thorough answers.

Carole's brain tumor continues to be stable (the most recent MRI was in January, 2000), and has not grown since 1997. We praise God for this and trust in His care for us. Thank you for all of you who have prayed for us. More information on this and other ways God has been working in our lives can be found below:

Projects being worked on:

Is Christianity anti-environmental? will examine what the Bible says about our relationship with the creation. Are Christians free to pillage and plunder God's creation?

I am in the process of updating the slideshows. In the year since the slideshows have appeared, the Hubble telescope has produced even more spectacular photos. I hope to add some multimedia to the slideshow in the coming months. Stay tuned for some awesome visual evidence of God's love for us.

Creationary Model for the Universe and Life on Earth will be a comprehensive model for the universe that fits both biblical accounts and scientific data. It is a much-requested (by evolutionists) creationary model. One of the most common complaints from evolutionists is that we criticize evolution without providing a reasonable alternative. This page will be an attempt to answer their charge.

All ways lead to God - An examination of this popular belief is shown to be logically impossible.
