If we look at the universe, one of its prominent features is the reliability of the physical laws. These laws are so consistent that many non-believers point to this fact as proof that God does not exist. However, a well-designed universe is one that can operate with minimal intervention. The laws of physics are so reliable that God ties His promises to the reliability of those physical laws:

This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar-- the LORD Almighty is his name. "Only if these decrees vanish from my sight," declares the LORD, "will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me." (Jeremiah 31:35-36)
