Slide 17 of 49

This is a composite view of our Milky Way galaxy as it would appear edge on. Our Solar System is located near the edge of the galaxy in a relatively unpopulated region between spiral arms. Our Sun is located in the region of our galaxy that is called the galactic co-rotation radius. This is the only location within a galaxy where stars do not drift in and out of the spiral arms as the galaxy revolves. Not only is this region of the galaxy ideal for the support of life, but it also affords us an excellent view of our galaxy and universe (unobstructed by the gaseous nebulae found in the spiral arms and other, more crowded parts of our galaxy). It appears that God has allowed us such a good view that we could see how "the heavens declare the glory of God" (Psalms 19:1).
