The multiregional hypothesis states that modern humans evolved from several different groups of hominids (Homo ergaster, Homo erectus, Homo antecessor, and Homo neandertalensis) that interbred at some point to produce different races or groups of modern humans. The fossil record and genetic evidence contradict this hypothesis.
