Archeological excavations of ancient American sites have never revealed metal use before 900 A.D. Before this time, only stone tools and pottery are found. Once metal use developed, metal tools, weapons, and artwork depicting those activities appeared in the archeological record. The Book of Mormon claims that metals were used in the Americas before the birth of Christ.
